We have a newly created role that will suit an enthusiastic Kaiaarahi.

Hospice Waikato provides specialist care for Waikato people living with life limiting or terminal conditions and their whaanau. We deliver care across all settings; at home, inpatient, paediatrics, and aged residential care. We have a holistic approach and offer medical and nursing care, counselling, social work, massage therapy, music therapy, spiritual care and much more to support whaanau. Our services cover the Waikato and we are supported by a huge team of volunteers and our wonderful retail kaimahi who turn donated goods into funds for our service.

This role has been created to support, develop and deliver Hospice Waikato’s ongoing programmes focussing on building cultural competency, responsiveness and culturally safe practices.

As our Cultural Partner, you will work organisation wide with our retail teams, support staff, clinical staff and our volunteers. You will provide cultural advice, help with strategic planning, support best practice and frameworks, and design programmes and policies. You would be joining our wonderful Learning and Development Team who deliver training internally as well as to community groups and primary health care service providers.

This is an entirely new role at Hospice Waikato that has been on our wishlist for a while and we are thrilled to be able to bring this role onboard in 2023. It is time for extra support and education to take us to the next level.

What you will need to bring to the role:
We’re looking for someone enthusiastic and connected in the community, especially to Maori organisations and providers. It would be great to have someone conversationally fluent in Te Reo and with the energy to lead waiata, karakia and provide a great welcome to new staff and help them on a tikanga journey.

You will need…
  • Sound knowledge of tikanga Maaori
  • A qualification in Maaori, Social Sciences, Adult Education or similar
  • 4-5 years’ proven experience working with Maaori communities.
  • Effective communication with strong engaging presentation skills
  • To have leadership skills with the ability to influence and encourage others
  • Energy and be comfortable collaborating, mentoring and coaching
  • Full NZ Drivers' Licence

Want to korero? Contact Kay Syminton, Learning & Development Team Leader, at [email protected] or 027 279 2601 to discuss any aspects of the role. A copy of the position description is available on http://www.hospicewaikato.org.nz/.

    Apply via SEEK.

The successful applicant will be required to undertake pre-employment health screening (including drug testing) and complete a criminal records check, the results of which must be to Hospice Waikato’s satisfaction. Applicants must have the right to work in NZ.
