Visiting the Inpatient Unit

 

Our main visiting time is between 10am and 4pm. Close family members may visit outside these hours by agreement with the senior nurse on duty. One support person may stay on-site during Alert Level 2.

On arrival to our in-patient unit:
Visitors are encouraged to wear a face mask - a fabric mask is fine, or a disposable surgical mask can be provided.
All visitors must sign in using their name and contact details and complete COVID-19 screening and have their temperature checked
• Maximum of two visitors may visit a patient at any one time
• All visitors must stay in the patients room

• Please DO NOT visit if you have any cold/or flu symptoms, this includes any acute respiratory infection with at least one of the following symptoms: cough, sore throat, shortness of breath, runny nose, sneezing, post nasal drop, loss of sense of smell; with or without a fever.
• All visitors should be free of cold or flu symptoms for at least 48 hours before visiting IPU

Where to find us
The inpatient unit is located at 334 Cobham Drive, Hillcrest, Hamilton. Limited parking is available on site. Parking is also available on Cobham Drive and the surrounding streets. Please do not park in the clearly marked staff parking areas.

Accommodation is available for family/whanau staying with a patient
Please speak with your Hospice Waikato nurse to request an overnight stay. Accommodation allows for one person to stay in a patients room. Linen towels and showering facilities are available for use. A self-contained family/whānau room which sleeps up to six people is available. Hospice Waikato reserves the right to allocate this facility.

Please note:
• All guests must be fully mobile, independent or have fulltime supervision of a carer or family member and must be able to manoeuvre through smoke stop emergency doors.
• Guests are not permitted to smoke outside of their rooms, but in the designated smoking areas only.

Patient Rooms
En suite facilities are for patient use only, an overnight support person may use these facilities. All other visitors must use visitor facilities.

Food and Drink
• During Alert Level 2 - some communal areas are closed to the public, this is to reduce congregation of visitors. Please check with reception, if unsure.
• A continental breakfast is supplied for family or carers staying overnight.

Security
• Visitors must enter and leave the Inpatient Unit by the main door and sign in and out on the iPad.
• To ensure the safety of everyone once main door is locked at night - only staff may provide access to the building.
• Patio areas have privacy screening.
• Valuables – Hospice Waikato cannot accept responsibility for any damage or loss of
personal property of visitors or patients.

Please remember that Hospice Waikato site is a smoke-free environment.
