Hospice Waikato provides specialist care for Waikato people living with life limiting or terminal conditions and their whānau.

We are looking for a Kaiāwhina to join our Family Services Team who support those in our care with counselling, social work, massage therapy, music therapy and spiritual care.

As our Kaiāwhina, you will offer cultural support, advocacy and awhi to Māori patients and their whānau who come into our services. You will help develop and deliver education on tikanga guidelines and practice, in the context of palliative care, to our teams and those we care for.

To succeed, you will also need to be motivated and innovative with strong communication, relationship, education, and administrative skills. You will need to have maturity and resilience to support whānau through our services, but you will be working alongside a terrific team with a holistic approach and a great sense of humour.

To be the right fit for this role and our organisation you would have:
• A tertiary qualification in Māori, Social Sciences, Health or similar
• In-depth knowledge of tikanga Māori
• Knowledge of Māori health providers and social services agencies within the Waikato and Maniapoto region
• Current full New Zealand driver’s licence
• Established networks within Māori communities
• Understanding or experience of delivering a community-based health service

This is an opportunity to join our team on a permanent basis and we are open to having either two Kaiāwhina working 2-3
