Children and Young People

When a loved one is living with a terminal illness, children and young people may feel and show their grief in different ways. Our Family Support team offers practical and emotional support to children and young people, learning to cope with uncertainty, loss and grief.

The Hospice Family Services Team provide information and support for parents wanting to support their children under the age of seven. For children and young people over the age of seven years, our counsellors will carry out holistic assessments to ascertain a clear picture of family/whānau needs.

Through our music, art and play therapy we hope to increase happiness, responsiveness and empowerment for these children and their families/whānau. Our Family Services team will work closely with your family, throughout the care of your child including providing ongoing bereavement support.
