NEW TRUSTEES FOR A NEW PHASE OF HOSPICE DELIVERY
Planning to meet the growing and evolving demands of the Hospice Waikato is a major focus for the Hospice Waikato Board and Leadership team who, in 2019, committed to investing in the development of a Master Service Plan which will provide a blueprint for the delivery of the Hospice services through to 2040 and beyond.
As part of this process, an extensive Board Evaluation was undertaken which identified areas of additional capability which would support the current Board in their Governance role.
As a result of the evaluation, and after a rigorous engagement process, Board Chair Margaret Devlin is delighted to announce the appointment of Judi Sefton, Dave Downey and Jan Smith to the Board of Hospice Waikato.
With over 30 years in the Waste and Recycling sector, including a period as CE of Christchurch based EcoCentral, Judi Sefton brings a wealth of operational and strategic leadership, marketing, retail and logistics experience to the Board. Judi has experience in both Executive and Governance roles in both private and public entities, as well as Charitable organisations. Whilst Judi’s experience will be used across all aspects of the Board, the upcycling retail arm in particular will benefit from Judi’s appointment. Now residing in the Waikato, Judi is a long standing member of the Institute of Directors is also a Trustee on Waikato Women’s Refuge (Te Whakaruruhau).
Dave Downey is a Senior Executive with a proven track record of optimising organisational performance in complex, diverse and changing environments. Dave has engaged and led teams through transformational change and enabled them to succeed under new operating models and structures. Previously Dave has had executive roles with Holdfast, within the Perry Group and is currently the CEO of APL.
Jan Smith’s entire working career has been within the health care sector, starting out as a registered nurse. Jan is the Manager of the newly formed Te Manawa Taki Regional Cancer Hub and has broad experience in strategic health planning and formal service change to models of care. Jan has facilitated the Midland Palliative Care governance and work programme while managing the Midland Cancer Network since 2006. Jan’s extensive work portfolio has included supporting the development and implementation of local district strategic palliative care plans and more recently, the development of the first regional specialist palliative care workforce plan.
Margaret is looking forward to welcoming the new Trustees to their first Board meeting in early July 2020. “With our Master Service Plan due to be finalized this year, and the recently released review of the Health & Disability sector in New Zealand, our Board will be required to take bold look at the delivery of specialist community palliative care in the Waikato. We’re confident that the complementary skills and knowledge that Judi, Dave and Jan bring to our Board will assist with ensuring Hospice Waikato is well positioned for the future.
